In October, 2016 we launched a vibrant, active organization, SCV is a private, nonprofit, tax exempt organization which provides services to San Clemente residents aged 55 and better. Being a member of the Village enables a person to participate in a variety of social, cultural and educational activities.
Our trained volunteers are matched with members requesting supportive assistance. Volunteer drivers take members to doctor’s appointments, personal gatherings, SCV events and basic errands. This assistance helps us in one of our major objectives of preventing social isolation.
Our volunteers connect with potentially isolated members on holidays, to cheer them and let them know they are not alone. A gentleman who is sight impaired regularly has a volunteer repair small items in his home. This gentleman and our volunteer have become fast friends, improving the lives of both. Some members have created interest groups such as bunco and cooking classes. This process adds to the village activities and engages more members. Currently the most popular activities are the lunch bunch, dine around and basic computer skills.
Every full member is offered participation in the Ambassador Program. This program matches members with volunteers for one-on-one monthly visits. As the relationships evolve we find that the member becomes more engaged with the Village events as the volunteer encourages participation and is often their source of transportation.
Our representatives are reaching out into the community to raise awareness about the issues related to aging. Our generous organization helps keep seniors happy, healthy and contributing to our community.
Thank you sincerely for your contribution. We are always pleased to connect with groups in our community.
