Cheryl McDowell
President



Cheryl McDowel
l serves as President. Cheryl initially joined the village on the Advisory Board as our insurance specialist. She became a Director on the Village Board in early 2018. She has been a Commercial Insurance Advisor for almost fifteen years.



Beth Hasenbein 
serves as Secretary. She has been active with the Village since she joined the Board in September, 2016. Beth recently retired from 35 years in the healthcare industry with experience in Operations, Customer Service, and Sales/Retention. As Chair of the Member Services Team, Beth has met personally with most our members. Beth also supports our Service Coordinators who answer the Village phones and connects our members with volunteer services.

Steve Walrath
Treasurer




Steve Walrath
serves as Treasurer. Steve has spent the last 45 years as a Certified Public Accountant. His firm provided accounting services to individuals, and businesses. Those services included financial statements, payroll preparation, tax returns and business consulting. Until 2010, the primary business was the creation of information system’s software for the temporary employment industry. His company supplied software solutions to over 100 firms nationwide. Currently, he provides income tax preparation for individuals, estates, trusts and businesses. San Clemente Village is so fortunate to have Steve join our Board of Directors.






Diane Edwards
serves as a Director. Diane is a retired professor from Saddleback College. During her tenure she wrote a book, Prime Moves, which sold over 50,000 copies. She was an ambassador for the U.S. Government to China. She collaborated with Cedars Sinai, CSUF, and the University of Irvine in successful aging research.

Bob Spidell
Director
Bob Spidell serves as a Director. Bob has been a resident of San Clemente since 1999 and is a Founding Member of San Clemente Village. In the mid-70’s, he started Spidell Publishing, Inc., which became the largest privately-owned provider of tax information in California. The company publishes newsletters and books about new tax laws and conducts tax seminars throughout the State.

Bob has a B.A. in Economics and an Honorary D.H.L. from California State University, Long Beach. He is the former President of the CSULB Alumni Association, the Mission San Juan Capistrano Docent Society and the California Society of Tax Consultants.


Chase Metcalf serves as Director. Chase has worked in the financial services industry for over five years and began serving as a Financial Advisor with Metcalf Wealth Management Group in 2018. Previously, he worked as an Operations Clerk from 2013 to 2014 and a Client Service Associate from 2015 to 2018.
Chase has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from California State University-Fullerton, and is an Orange Coast College Community Education Instructor.

Julie Schoen
Director

Julie Schoen serves as Director. Julie brings her passion for all aspects of aging issues to her role as Deputy Director of the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) at USC’s Keck School of Medicine. She is an attorney with a strong background in Medicare Advocacy who is now making an impact in the area of Elder Abuse. Like you, she hopes to build public awareness by collaborating with experts in the field.

She is an active board member of the Elder Financial Protection Network (EFPN) and the National Organization of Victim Assistance (NOVA). Julie’s influence in he aging field has been well documented in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and USA Today as well as frequent guest appearances on KFWB, Talk Radio, Money 101.

Before joining the NCEA team at USC, Julie devoted the first 20 years of her career as the director of the Health Insurance Counseling Advocacy Program and the CA Senior Medicare Patrol. She’s a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Madison and has lived in Orange County for the past 30 years with her husband Jim and daughter Emily.



Carolyn Nototny
serves as Director. Carolyn has been a supporter of San Clemente Village since the first meeting introducing The Village to San Clemente. She understands the importance of keeping our Senior Population healthy, independent, and thriving in their environment.  Her own mother is a Charter Member, first as a Social Member and now a full Member.  After retiring from over 35 years as an Insurance Broker, she is devoted to making sure that our Senior Population and their loved ones know their options when making some difficult decisions when life changes.


In her spare-time she has volunteered for many organizations and has been part of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association for the past 23 years.  She enjoys camping and gardening.

Jan Montague
 is Executive Director. Jan has previously served as President of the SC Village.  Jan has also served as an active member of the Volunteer Team. Many members will remember Jan’s presentation at their orientation. Jan comes to the Board with over 30 years of experience in the field of whole person wellness with a focused interest in aging well. During her career, she has owned and managed a chain of wellness-based fitness centers. She was President of Whole Person Wellness Solutions and served as Vice President of Community Life, Wellness and Applied Research. In 2013, Jan formed her own business, Whole Person Wellness International.

Jan is recognized leader in the field of healthy aging and has implemented healthy solutions in senior living communities, within Senior Centers and in the aging service network. Jan has extensive experience in providing educational sessions and workshops on healthy aging.
